Diving For 100 Years
I first visited in 1988. I later returned 1995. I decided to paint, promote and base myself in Türkiye in 1997 and did so 1998-2008. I went to and fro after that.
I saw Türkiye as a country largely unknown to the collective West, yet it was the cliché where East meets West with a deep historic and cultural value which so few apparently knew back home in England. Even today, when both Turks and foreigners refer to Turkey, I always make a point of stating Türkiye.
Activities involving Derinlere Saygı Dalış, a diving association named Respect For Deep Diving, occurred this last weekend as part of celebrating ‘100 years of Turkey in 134 diving points yesterday and today.’
Note, this is from a Turk who doesn’t even spell Türkiye as I do. I don’t know the significance of 134, but it’s their country, their culture, so let them celebrate it as they wish.
One of the images used is ‘24 Hour Atatürk’, which I produced 9.05am-9.05am, completing the task for the morning of 10 November to mark the anniversary of Atatürk’s death in 1938.

I love the image of the Eyes under water and at the water’s surface, but it would be even more welcome if Turks would use my film:
